The reliable Italian journalist revealed on Twitter that the former Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder allegedly rejected an offer to join Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
Despite the transfer window being slammed shut until January 2020, players who are currently unattached to a club and are free agents are still free to join a new club.
An offer for Marchisio appears to have come out of nowhere and one that will have likely taken everyone by some surprise.
The 33-year-old is a hugely experienced and highly decorated midfielder that won a number of accolades during his time at Juventus, which included seven Serie A titles and two Champions League runners-up medals (Transfermarkt).
Throughout his career, he has played 435 matches across all competitions, scoring 39 goals and providing 44 assists (Transfermarkt).
Although Rangers could have benefitted by having a player of his quality and calibre available to them throughout the season, he would have only been arriving in what is already a rather congested area of the team.
Gerrard can already call upon the likes of Andy King, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Joe Aribo fighting for their place in his central midfield.
The news of Rangers’ alleged attempt to bring Marchisio to Ibrox is something that would have certainly surprised many and caught a host of supporters off guard when it was revealed.
It would have been a really huge coup if they were able to bring the former Italy international to the club, however, it would appear perhaps that Gerrard is not scared of trying to convince big talents to join him in Glasgow.
