Rangers fans here in the Tavern are loving life after the January transfer window, although they were at a potential loss on the defensive front.

Graeme Murty continues to enjoy life at Ibrox after the Gers inflicted a 6-1 Scottish Cup defeat on League one side Ayr United. Indeed, one negative to take away from proceedings was conceding the first goal of the game, with a lack of concentration often letting them down in recent times. And, after seeing defender Danny Wilson depart in January, a weakened defence appears to be down to their own wrongdoing, as according to reports in the Scottish Sun, former Rangers player Danny Wilson has stated that he ‘wanted to stay’ instead of leaving for the MLS.

Indeed, former Gers star Danny Wilson departed for MLS side Colorado Rapids in the January window, a move that raised a few eyebrows around Glasgow. However, it appears that Danny Wilson was eager for a contract extension at Ibrox after chasing Pedro Caixhina and Graeme Murty for some time, but this only led to Mark Allen performing a U-turn on the deal.

And, the Scot has since came out to shed some light on his move to America:

“I made it clear I wanted to stay with Rangers. Absolutely, I wanted to stay. But I was left with no choice but to consider other options.

“I asked two managers and a director of football about a new contract.

“I was told just to concentrate on my performances — and I thought my performance level over that period of time was good.

“Then as it got into January, after we returned from Florida, I went in to speak to them again.

“I was told the contract would be there in the next day or so.

“That was on the Tuesday, but by the Wednesday evening I was told there would be no contract for me to sign.

“It was Mark Allen, the director of football, who told me.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Danny Wilson was a valuable asset to the defensive unit at Ibrox, as a player that always gave his all for the cause at a club that he adored. And, for a player that had so much more to offer to the cause, it appears that the hierarchy had decided that his services weren’t required anymore. Indeed, a decision that may have proven costly in weeks gone by, as silly defensive errors continue to appear for Murty’s side.
