Our Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern really would rather forget last season ever happened with what they had to see Celtic achieve.
One of football’s most bitter rivalries, the Bhoys swept all before them on the way to a domestic treble and unbeaten season leaving the Ibrox club to do nothing but watch on.
For Pedro Caixinha, then, the job has to be to try and close the gap considerably for next season and try and win a trophy with this summer giving him the first opportunity to build towards that.
Signings, then, have already happened but we think the Gers actually need to follow Celtic’s lead from last season and sign a young, hungry striker to fire them back to the top of the Scottish game.
Indeed, Moussa Dembele proved that if you give these types of players a chance they will deliver and we think, with that in mind, Rangers should get after young Sheffield Wednesday starlet George Hirst.
Outside of the Yorkshire club, few may have heard of the Englishman but they surely will know all about him in the near future.
A quick-thinking forward, Hirst is ice-cool in front of goal and at only 18-years-old plays for the U21 side for his club where he has been easily their stand out performer.
As well as that, he helped fire England to victory in the Toulon Tournament this summer and that all suggests that his career is about to explode.
Rangers, then, should try and get him and offer him first team action because – as Dembele has shown – a young player of that talent in front of a superb crowd leads to considerable success.
