In what threatened to be an extremely successful first season at Rangers for Steven Gerrard has now turned into one where they have nothing to play for. Considering the size of the Glasgow giants, every fan reading this will know that simply isn’t good enough and, in the space of a few days, the campaign has unravelled.
Out of the Europa League, the Scottish League Cup and most recently the Scottish Cup, Rangers must now but all their efforts into planning for next season and how they will get better as a team.
Indeed, Gerrard must ensure the seven-year wait for a major trophy comes to an end and the best chance he has of doing so is by recruiting some higher quality players. Clearly, Rangers have a big squad already and midfield is a position where options are aplenty. However, as shown this season, Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson looks to be a top player that could vastly improve things at Ibrox for years to come.
Ferguson, (who is valued at £450k on Transfermarkt) is one of many players for the Dons that helped outclassed Rangers in the Scottish Cup this season.
The 19-year-old looks to be a terrific talent and to make things worse, the Light Blues had him on their books until they released him in 2013.
A lot has changed since then and Ferguson has gone from strength to strength in an Aberdeen shirt, having been a regular in their midfield this season. As well as terrific skill and overall work-rate, Lewis Ferguson has supplied seven goals and six assists in all competitions this season, showing that he has plenty to his game.
Rangers are lacking a player exactly like the youngster and it’s certainly said that Lewis Ferguson is one of the biggest rising stars in Scotland right now.
