Although Rangers have been the busier side in Glasgow over the summer transfer window, the attention as of late has firmly shifted onto Celtic over the past few days in light of recent news.
Scotland international Kieran Tierney looks set to leave the Hoops this summer after it was reported from BBC Sport that Arsenal had a bid rejected for the Celtic left-back but a deal between the two clubs for the defender remains likely as the Scottish Premiership holders stand in line to make over £20 million on their academy product.
The loss of Tierney means that Celtic will, of course, be in the hunt for a new starting left-back, and the name on everyone’s lips at the moment is Derby defender Max Lowe, who according to the Daily Record is a target for Neil Lennon’s side, as well as Rangers, and we believe that if Steven Gerrard can win over the England U-20 international it could be a damaging blow to their fierce rivals.
After an impressive loan spell at Aberdeen last season where Lowe played 42 times for the Scottish side, the Derby defender has rightly put his name in the headlights of the two biggest clubs in the country, and for Rangers, they can cause some major damage this summer to their rivals if they can manage to bring Lowe to the Ibrox.
As well as severely derailing Celtic’s transfer plans by stealing a player they see as a replacement for one of their influential first-team members for the past few years, Gerrard’s side will be strengthening their squad with one of the most promising fullbacks in the Championship, a win-win in the eyes of anyone associated with Rangers.
Rangers fans, should the club sign Lowe this summer? Let us know!
