We’ve all seen what Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe can do for Rangers when playing their best football, but they’re not a pair that can be relied upon forever. Morelos’ discipline has been nothing short of shambolic and Defoe is 36 these days, and that’s why the Gers should look at Zak Rudden.
The Bluenoses will know the name Zak Rudden, but they may not know a lot about the young striker. Well, if that’s the case we’re here to fill you in and to try and convince you that he can be key for Stevie G next season as the Ibrox faithful look to try and topple Celtic in the Scottish Premier League, especially as the goalscorer has signed a new deal at Ibrox, which you can read about in The Herald Scotland.
You might remember that Gerrard’s first game in charge of Rangers was a pre-season friendly against Bury last summer that finished 6-0 to the Bluenoses. Rudden bagged in that game, and that goal would foreshadow his season as whilst out on-loan to Falkirk he bagged a further 12 goals in his 31 league games, stats via Transfermarkt.
We’re not claiming that the youngster is going to return to Ibrox and tear up the record books but surely he’s worth a shot? At the age of just 19-years-old, there really is no reason why he can’t be set to star at Ibrox in the coming years, and it would be smart for Gerrard to give him some game time over the next 12 months. Indeed, the former England skipper has spoken of his willingness to give young players a chance before, so Rudden does at least look to have a chance.
We’ve already seen the young manager put his faith in the likes of Glenn Middleton (19) and Ross McCrorie (21) who have both been involved in the age group sides at Ibrox, so why shouldn’t young Zak Rudden be given the same opportunity throughout the 2019/20 season?
