The Steven Gerrard rebuild at Rangers has been in full flow ever since he was appointed last month, much to the delight of our local Light Blues here in the Transfer Tavern. Indeed, with Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor on board, our resident Gers couldn’t be happier.
Well, that was until reports from the Scottish Sun emerged. According to them, the Ibrox giants are set to complete a deal for Liverpool’s young midfielder Ovie Ejaria as Gerrard raids his former employers for the first time. The 20-year-old is understood to be close to joining Rangers on loan and the punters propping up our bar are absolutely delighted.
Ejaria was part of the England U20 World Cup winning squad last summer and was trusted enough to make first-team appearances for the Reds, so he’s certainly a talent. While he’s got some way to develop, doing so under Gerrard’s watch in Glasgow is a hugely exciting prospect.
As you can imagine, our resident Rangers fans are dancing on the pool tables.
A good move for Rangers and an early indicator of Gerrard’s pulling power. Though Ejaria is not yet a star, he’s surely likely to have attracted interest from Championship teams and the like, so to bring him to Rangers is a bit of a coup. Indeed, Gerrard is used to coaching burgeoning talents, so these are exciting times at Ibrox.
