Report shares worrying update on Rangers man

Rangers fans here in the Tavern are buzzing with the signings their side has made this window, but are hopeful to tie down some of their current squad to long-term contracts.

Graeme Murty has been desperate to get some additions on board this transfer window, as he hopes that their new signings can have a great effect on how the second half of the season pans out. But, for all the players joining the club he’s yet to turn his attentions to ensuring the futures of some of their current squad, as one youngster, in particular, is hopeful of a new deal at Ibrox. As according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Rangers defender David Bates has revealed that he is yet to be offered a new deal by the club despite interest from Sunderland.

The 21-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and is desperate to secure a new deal with the Glasgow club after interest from Sunderland has put the defender’s future into question. Although, If his recent partnership with experienced defender Russel Martin is anything to go by, then Rangers shouldn’t hesitate to trigger an extension with the youngster. However, his future does remain up in the air with the club still yet to give any signals as to whether this is something they’d like to take up.

For a player that’s loved being in the limelight in recent games under Graeme Murty, here he shares his hopes of a new and improved contract with the Gers:

“I’m enjoying my football.

“These things take care of themselves, as long as I’m playing on the football pitch.

“That’s why you have got representatives, they can take care of stuff off the pitch and we do our stuff on it.

“I would hope to get something sorted out with Rangers. Obviously it’s up to the club and if they can speak to my representatives then that would be great.”

Landlord’s Verdict:

The defender looks to be one for the future who’s already shown the ability he currently possesses at his young age, with interest coming in from other angles there’s no reason as to why Rangers shouldn’t exercise an extension. But, with the club failing to make any sort of contact with the 21-year-old over the possibility of extending his contract, it’ll be interesting to see the intentions of the Gers in terms of the defender’s future.
