Rangers have extremely busy in the transfer window so far.
There have been plenty of changes at Ibrox as Rangers hope to deny Celtic their eight consecutive Scottish Premiership title next season. Former England captain, Steven Gerrard, became their new manager – his first venture into club management. Gerrard has wasted no time revamping his squad.
Ten new players have arrived as Gerrard looks to end Celtic’s dominance in the SPFL. Unsurprisingly, Gerrard returned to Liverpool to recruit a number of his signings. Jon Flanagan joined the club after being released while promising youngsters Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria both completed loan moves.
For his next signing Gerrard should again look to Liverpool to sign goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet. The ex-Liverpool captain remains unconvinced by Wes Foderingham and may be tempted to sign a new number one this summer. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, Mignolet could be the answer to his problems.
The Belgian international is set to be axed by Liverpool following the arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma for a world-record £67m. Danny Ward has already left the club, and Mignolet is set to follow the Welshman through the exit door.
Despite his recent struggles, Mignolet would be a massive hit in the SPFL. With over 240 Premier League games under his belt, his experience will be vital in maintaining a title challenge and ensuring solidarity at the back.
If he can rediscover the form he showed at Sunderland, signing the 30-year-old could prove to be another astute piece of business by Gerrard.
