Steven Gerrard has arrived at Rangers tasked with getting them back on par with cross-city rivals Celtic.
With Celtic so dominant in Scottish football, Gerrard has a major challenge ahead to get his Rangers side to compete. The Liverpool legend needs all of his squad to give their all for the team on a weekly basis if he is to get close to the Celtic Park outfit, who have won successive trebles.
Gerrard has not been afraid to bring in lots of new recruits to Ibrox this summer. He has used his connections to Anfield to bring in Jon Flanagan, and Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent on loan deals. Rangers fans will be hoping Gerrard can dawn a new era at Ibrox.
One player who will be desperate to shine and show Steven Gerrard he is worthy of his place in the side is Daniel Candeias.
The 30-year-old winger was an unused substitute during the 2-0 victory over St Mirren, but the Portuguese will be hoping he gets his chance to impress the new Rangers boss.
Daniel Candeias joined up with the Ibrox outfit before the start of last season for a fee of £700,000. It was a season of mixed fortunes for the winger, where he shows spurts of good play but too often went missing.
The journeyman winger is skilful in the ball and could certainly make a contribution if called upon. He will be hoping the Liverpool legend boss does not show too much bias toward his own signings. If he gets game time, he could shine in Gerrard’s system.
