Just when Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern were getting their confidence back, bad news has hit, with the Daily Mail claiming that Barrie McKay has rejected the offer of a new contract at Ibrox.
It’s claimed that the 22-year-old was presented with extended terms and a pay-rise but that the opening proposal has been knocked back, albeit further negotiations are likely.
McKay has a year to run on his current deal and may be aware that his value will fall in the not too distant future, which might make him more appealing to potential suitors.
The Gers are now managed by Portuguese boss Pedro Caixinha after Mark Warburton was dispensed with over the winter period and there is a feeling of cautious optimism in the blue half of Glasgow after an up and down return to the Premiership.
They remain nine points adrift of Aberdeen in second spot, but are still in the running for the Scottish Cup with a semi-final tie vs. bitter rivals Celtic on the horizon.
Barrie McKay should stay at Rangers – agree?
