Rangers fans here in the Tavern are loving life under Graeme Murty, and keeping their star striker would be the icing on the cake for the Gers.
Graeme Murty has written his name in shining lights since being gifted the managerial job at Ibrox until the end of the season, as Rangers’ current second-place position is one that fans all around Glasgow have been treasuring for some time now. But, all of his great work could soon be undone should he make a certain mistake, selling star striker Alfredo Morelos after receiving a whole load of interest this window. And, according to reports in the Scottish Sun, Graeme Murty stated that Morelos won’t be going anywhere until their evaluation is met and they have a replacement.
Englishman Graeme Murty has insisted that the club doesn’t need to sell the Colombian, despite having had a whopping £6.5 million bid launched in for the 20-year-old from Chinese Super League side GZ Evergrande FC. But, after rejecting a £5.3 million offer from the club prior to last night’s bid, Rangers are now believed to be weighing up the latest figure in a deal that would see them receive six times more than what they originally paid for the striker.
However, with time beginning to run out as the closing couple of days in the window begin to take their toll, there’s questions being raised about whether the deal will go through with the key ingredient being a suitable replacement. And, as their top-goalscorer with 13 goals for the side so far, losing the striker could have a significant effect on the club moving forward.
“Talks are ongoing, they haven’t met our valuation.
“We have to make a footballing decision based on whether we can resource someone of Alfredo’s footballing ability. I’ve not been told there is any economic necessity to move him away.”
“If we can push on by keeping him, then that’s what we do. We have to safeguard the positive feeling around the club and the squad and make a solid footballing decision.
“I’m not going to allow a player to leave just because there are lots of zeros involved.
Losing Morleos would be a huge mistake for Rangers, as a player that’s given both fans and the club some of their best memories in recent times. And, with such little time left to find a suitable replacement for the forward, it’s beginning to look as if Rangers will be keeping hold of the striker. Although, they may only be enjoying their last season with the player on their pay-grade, as interest in the summer will be expected for the Rangers man.
