The curious case of Joey Barton and Rangers

Though so much optimism was abound amongst the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern at the start of the season, a slow start to the campaign has largely killed that.

There have been problems on and off the pitch at Ibrox and reports from the Independent have only dampened the mood of the ‘Gers propping up the bar.

They suggest the Glasgow club could well be forced to pay off Joey Barton’s £2m contract should they not find sufficient grounds to sack him.

Having only joined the club over the course of the summer, the 34-year-old was suspended for three weeks after a blazing row between he and teammate Andy Halliday.

More recently, that was extended by another week after suggestions he had bet on Scottish football.

According to the report, the former Manchester City and QPR ace’s career with the club looks all but over, despite penning a two-year deal worth around £20k per week.
