Vincent Janssen could spark career back into form with Rangers move

Rangers may be in the market for a new forward this summer.

Steven Gerrard has wasted no time in revamping his Rangers squad after replacing Graeme Murty in the dugout this summer. The former Liverpool captain has made nine new signings as he looks to deny Celtic their eight consecutive Scottish Premiership title. However, after watching his side beat FK Shkupi, he bemoaned his side’s lack of firepower.

The Gers have landed Roma forward, Umar Sadiq, on loan as well as adding Jamie Murphy to their attack. Nonetheless, they lack a true number nine with a killer instinct that can fire them to domestic and European glory. Therefore, Gerrard may dip back into the market for a new forward.

Should he do so, the ex-England captain should make an ambitious attempt to sign Tottenham striker – Vincent Janssen. Valued at £8.1m by Transfermarkt, the Dutchman has struggled immensely since joining from AZ Alkmaar and was loaned to Fenerbahce last year. He scored four goals and picked up two assists in just nine Super Lig starts.

It’s clear Janssen needs a fresh start to get his career back on track, and the SPFL could be the perfect place to do so. During his time in Holland, he was scoring goals for fun – hitting 27 in his final season before moving to Tottenham.

Playing regularly could be just what the 24-year-old needs to rediscover his goalscoring touch. Janssen can provide Gerrard with the firepower he craves.
