Our Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see signs that they are going to compete more with Celtic next season and, as quoted by The Express, Mark Warburton has revealed the first steps for that could be put in place soon.
Much to our local Gers disappointment Celtic have run away with the league this season and barring the most unlikely of turnarounds their fiercest rivals look set to win another league title this time around.
Even so, many connected with the Ibrox club will have known realistically that next season was always going to be the first time the Gers would feel they could challenge again for the league crown and so preparation is needed now.
Indeed, that certainly seems to be on Warburton’s mind with him revealing a new contract for key man Barrie McKay is in the pipeline.
The Gers’ boss said:
“I am sure the discussions will go on between the powers-that-be and the representatives. That should reach a fairly swift conclusion, I’d like to think.
“We just had Barrie in the office saying that he has to work even harder and push again. He can go as far in the game as he wants to.”
Our landlord thinks Warburton has done a fine job this season and the fact that McKay appears to want to stay is surely partly down to that.
Next season could be exciting in the Scottish top flight, then, particularly if the Gers get some new signings in during next summer.
