Report: Celtic receive timely boost ahead of Champions League qualifier

Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking ahead to their Champions League qualifier in a couple of weeks and will be hoping they can get to the group stages of the competition once again.

The Bhoys have struggled to make a real impact in Europe and the locals feel that they will need to get to through the qualifiers as a bare minimum and eventually try to progress through to the knockout rounds.

The Hoops have a difficult first round qualifier against Armenian side Alashkert, however, Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that he could have one man back for the trip, following a disastrous time at Celtic Park.

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Marvin Compper could be ready to return to action after a near six-month setback since his move from Red Bull Leipzig in January. The 33-year-old has been on the sidelines with fitness concerns, however, the defender could be available for the club’s pre-season in Austria next week.

Landlord’s Verdict

The news of Compper’s return to fitness could not have come at a better time for the Celtic fans in the Tavern. The defender will be needed during what will be a long season ahead for the Bhoys as it is likely Dedryck Boyata, Mikel Lustig and Cristian Gamboa will all need a break following their participation in this summer’s World Cup tournament.
