Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern have used the first few weeks of 2018 to look back at their side’s fortunes in 2017, a year in which the Bhoys completely dominated football north of the border to hold all three domestic trophies.
Brendan Rodgers’ men cruised to the Scottish Premiership title back in May by winning 34 of their 38 matches, with draws in the other four clashes seeing them record the highest points tally ever in the top-flight. And the Bhoys also lifted the Scottish Cup title at Hampden Park with victory over Aberdeen, before successfully defending their Scottish League Cup crown with a 2-0 win over Motherwell back in November, thus continuing their imperious dominance of the domestic game in Scotland.
Thus, it was quite a year for our resident Celtic fans, and many of them are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Record, which discloses the price Rodgers’ side will have to pay to land reported target Jack Hendry this month, namely £1.5 million.
The 22-year-old defender currently plays his trade at Dundee and has done so since the summer, in which time he has made a name for himself with 27 appearances for Neil McCann’s men, in which time he has helped the club to six clean sheets, and tenth place in the Scottish Premiership table.
As such, the Scottish centre-back has reportedly attracted the attention of Rodgers’ Celtic, and recent reports suggest that it will cost them £1.5 million to convince Dundee into selling their prized asset this month.
Yet with the Bhoys reportedly ready to offer £800,000 for the 22-year-old, it very much remains to be seen where Hendry’s future lies.
Landlord’s verdict: Jack Hendry has impressed hugely since his move to Dundee back in the summer, with the 22-year-old playing all 22 of their Scottish Premiership matches so far this season, and performing well in many of them.
Unsurprisingly, the centre-back has since attracted much attention from clubs around the country, with Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic one side reportedly keen on his services as they seek to bolster their defensive ranks.
And the Bhoys now know the price they will have to pay if they are to land the Scottish youngster this month, with Dundee reportedly placing a £1.5 million price-tag on his shoulders in a bid to fend off interest.
But whether that figure is enough to convince Celtic against a move for Hendry remains to be seen.
