Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their side’s opening game of 2018 against Aberdeen on Wednesday, with the Gers hoping to build upon their encouraging end to 2017 when they return to action this week.
Graeme Murty’s men concluded the year with a spirited goalless draw away at Old Firm rivals Celtic on December 30, a result which saw them third in the Scottish Premiership yet 11 points adrift of the Bhoys at the turn of the year. But after the year they had, in which Pedro Caixinha oversaw an ultimately disappointing reign as boss, which included a humiliating defeat to Progres Niederkorn in the Europa League, there may well be some optimism among our resident Rangers fans given the business their side have conducted, and the effort Murty has so far put in since taking over from the Portuguese back in November.
And many of those Gers supporters lining up at the bar are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Scottish Herald, which outlines the price Rangers are seeking to even consider selling influential ace Alfredo Morelos this month, namely £10 million.
The 21-year-old made the move to Ibrox back in the summer and has certainly hit the ground running at the Scottish giants, bagging 12 goals in just 25 appearances for the club, ten goals of which have come in the league in their run to third place.
As such, the Colombian has reportedly attracted interest from ‘a number of Championship clubs’, and now those teams know exactly how much it’ll take to convince the Gers into parting with the striker, namely £10 million.
And with the shrewd business conducted by the club so far, our resident Rangers fans will hope to keep Morelos beyond January in a bid to avoid undoing all their good work in the window so far.
Landlord’s verdict: Pedro Caixinha’s transfer record in charge of Rangers isn’t overly impressive, but few can argue how good a buy Alfredo Morelos was over the summer.
The 21-year-old striker has scored 12 goals in just 25 appearances for the club this term and looks set to play a huge part in the second half of the season, that’s if he remains at Ibrox beyond next week’s deadline.
Championship clubs are reportedly keen on the Colombian, but it will reportedly cost them £10 million to convince the Gers to part with the influential star – a sum which may be enough to put some sides off.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen what the future holds for the in-demand ace.
