Report: Gerrard wants to add another defender to his Rangers rebuild

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be delighted with the work that Steven Gerrard has already done in the transfer market and will be hopeful those additions can perform on the pitch.

The new Light Blues manager has been busy rebuilding his squad ahead of the upcoming campaign and has made a number of signings to help them become a competitive force in the Scottish Premiership.

However, according to a report in the Daily Express, it appears the former Liverpool star is far from done with his recruitment and is continuing to look at his defence as an area to improve. It is being claimed that Millwall’s Jake Cooper is now being considered as a possible signing.

It is believed that Gerrard would like to add another centre-back to his ranks, with the likes of Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso thought to be heading for the exit door and Rangers are prepared to pay more than £1million to land the 23-year-old from the Lions.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Rangers fans in the Tavern will be excited with the prospect of Cooper joining the club this summer as he proved to be one of the Championship’s most consistent defenders.

Gerrard has already shone his intent to make the defence as strong as possible with Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, however, the addition of the 23-year-old would allow the Light Blues to play a central three at the back and give them the flexibility to change their formation when required.
