Report: Rangers hierarchy yet to discuss strongly-linked target this summer

Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern will be excited with the upcoming future of their side as Steven Gerrard looks to make a huge impression.

The new manager has already started life at Ibrox in a positive fashion, having made a number of key additions, as well as his first match going as well as could possibly be, despite it being a friendly.

The former Liverpool manager will now be looking ahead to the competitive fixtures of the season, with FK Shkupi on Thursday, however, the transfer rumours have not stopped in terms of players who he could try and bring to the Light Blues, although one looks unlikely.

According to a report in the Glasgow Evening Times, Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move to join up with the former England international on a loan deal, however, the club’s hierarchy are not thought to have discussed an approach for him.

Landlord’s Verdict

It would appear very unlikely that Defoe would head to Ibrox this summer on a loan deal due to the wages that he is currently earning at the Cherries. It is believed that he is on a salary in excess of £100,000-a-week and Rangers would struggle to pay a significant percentage.

The addition of the former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland forward would no doubt please the locals in the Tavern, however, it is one many will feel is not going to happen.
