Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern won’t stop signing after the club lifted the Scottish Cup to complete a domestic double – our punters are confident they will do the same next year.
The Hoops cruised to their seventh consecutive Scottish Premiership title and lifted the trophy finely with a 5-0 drumming of Rangers at Celtic Park. Despite their triumph at home, they struggled on the European stage. They were knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage and also exited the Europa League at the hands of Zenit St Petersburg.
If Rodgers is to lead them to success in Europe, he needs a marquee signing. Leigh Griffiths, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard have been great, but a top striker with European experience would take them to the next level. That man could be Liverpool’s, Daniel Sturridge.
Rodgers paid £12m to bring Sturridge to Anfield back in 2013, and the Englishman set the Premier League alight with his performances alongside Luis Suarez. Since then, injuries and the emergence of Roberto Firmino has seen him slide down the pecking order on Merseyside – his recent loan move to West Brom was a complete fail. Reuniting with Rodgers could be the perfect move to relaunch his career.
Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to block a deal for the forward who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt. Still only 28-years-old, Sturridge has plenty of time to leave his fitness troubles behind him and re-establish himself as one of the world’s top strikers. The former England international would score goals for fun in Scotland and put himself back into the England picture.
A fresh start at Celtic Park could be the best move he’s ever made.
