Rodgers’ Celtic on verge of completing exciting midfielder deal – report

Celtic supporters have been in buoyant mood in the Transfer Tavern over the Christmas and New Year period after seeing their side put their 4-0 defeat to Hearts at the start of December behind them to win three of their subsequent four matches.

Brendan Rodgers’ men saw their incredible 69-match unbeaten domestic run come to a shuddering halt with a harrowing defeat at Tynecastle, but the Bhoys have not been derailed by such a loss and have since embarked on a four-match unbeaten run. Victories over Partick Thistle, Aberdeen, and Dundee have since followed, before being held to a goalless draw by Old Firm rivals Rangers at Celtic Park last time out, although the result kept them a healthy 11 points clear of the Gers in the Scottish Premiership table.

And with no football until their Scottish Cup clash with Brechin City on January 20, much of the attention of our resident Bhoys fans has been on the January transfer window, so they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Scottish Sun which suggests that their side are on the verge of completing a deal for St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan.

The 21-year-old started his youth career at Rangers but has since come up through the ranks at the Scottish Championship side, for whom he has gone on to play 102 times, scoring 24 goals and laying on 18 assists in the process.

Yet this term has seen the midfielder go from strength to strength with 13 goals and eight assists in just 26 games for Jack Ross’ side, thus unsurprisingly attracting attention from Rodgers’ Celtic, as well as the likes of Rangers and Championship duo Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest.

Yet recent reports suggest that it is the Bhoys who are on the verge of sealing a deal for the exciting midfielder, with Morgan reportedly set to be unveiled at some stage on Wednesday before being loaned back to St Mirren for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign.

And securing a deal for the supremely talented 21-year-old looks set to stand Celtic in good stead for many years to come.

Landlord’s verdict: Lewis Morgan’s meteoric rise at Scottish Championship side St Mirren this season has caught the eye of many around the British Isles, but it looks like he’ll be remaining north of the border.

And that’s because Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are reportedly closing in on sealing a deal for the exciting midfielder, who has bagged 13 goals in just 26 games this season to help Jack Ross’ men to top spot in the second tier.

And with reports suggesting that he will be loaned back to the club for the rest of the campaign, not only would Celtic get their man for the future, but the Saints would continue to benefit from Morgan’s efforts in their quest to return to the Scottish Premiership – everyone appears to be a winner.
