Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this season after seeing their side make another great start to the new campaign, with the Bhoys already asserting their dominance at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Brendan Rodgers’ men went unbeaten domestically last term en route to winning the league, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup, and they this time round broke their own 100-year record of 62 matches without defeat in Scottish competition by beating St Johnstone 4-0 last time out. Thus, the Scottish heavyweights are already three points clear at the top of the pile after winning nine of their opening 12 league games, and with three points from three matches in the Champions League as well, they have given themselves a great chance of remaining in European competition after Christmas.
Thus, there have been many delighted Celtic fans in the Tavern over the last few weeks, and many may be further intrigued and encouraged by a recent report from The Daily Record, which suggests that Rodgers is set to raid one of his former clubs for a 24-year-old defensive sensation, namely Reading’s Liam Moore.
The Englishman made the move to the Madejski Stadium back in 2016 after a long association with Leicester City, and the centre-back played a huge part in helping the Royals reach the Championship play-off final last term with 40 league appearances for the Berkshire outfit.
And with two goals and two assists already this time round, the 24-year-old continues to impress at the heart of Jaap Stam’s backline, so much so that Rodgers is reportedly looking to land Moore in January in a bid to bolster his defensive ranks.
But whether Celtic can indeed lure the centre-back away from the Madejski Stadium very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have both struggled with injuries for Celtic this season, thus leaving manager Brendan Rodgers slightly short of centre-back cover.
Yet the Northern Irishman appears to be trying to solve that problem by reportedly expressing an interest in Reading’s Liam Moore, who has performed impressively at the heart of the Royals backline since making the move from Leicester City last year.
And given that he possesses confidence and composure on the ball as well as a ruggedness defensively, the 24-year-old could be the ideal man to come in and help strengthen the Bhoys defence, but more importantly provide Rodgers with plenty of options ahead of the second half of the campaign.
