Celtic fans here in the Tavern are desperate for their side to secure yet another treble in the next campaign after dominating proceedings last time out.
The Hoops will need to strengthen over the course of the summer as Rangers continue to welcome players to Ibrox as part of Steven Gerrard’s plans. Although, it looks as if Brendan Rodgers will need to splash the cash to bring in a reported target, as according to the Daily Record, Hibernian will hold on to John McGinn unless Celtic double their bid to £3 million.
Interestingly, the Bhoys made a first offer of £1.5 million for the midfielder last week, which was rejected by Hibernain chiefs.
And, it’s now believed that Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie is determined to hold out for a £3 million fee, despite the Scottish international having just 12 months left to run on his contract.
But the Premiership champions are reluctant to meet Hibs’ asking price when the 23-year-old could be snared on a pre-contract in January.
So, it looks as if Brendan Rodgers will be forced to splash the cash if he wants to secure the services of John McGinn this summer after having his first bid rejected.
Indeed, many of our local residents believe that McGinn would be the perfect partner for experienced midfielder Scott Brown next season, as the Hibernian star would create space for Brown to work in by making runs forward and adopts a similar dogged approach which will help him out in defensive areas.
