Rodgers in pole position to land attacking sensation as promising Celtic reports emerge

Celtic supporters have been slightly despondent in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side go down 1-0 at home to Anderlecht in the Champions League on Tuesday night, yet it was enough to see the Bhoys book their place in the Europa League after Christmas.

Brendan Rodgers’ men went into their clash with the Belgian giants in pole position to secure third place in Group B, having beaten their opponents 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in September. And with placings decided on head-to-head records if points are the same, the Scottish giants always had a comfort zone, however they produced an insipid display to go down 1-0 at Celtic Park, with Jozo Simunovic’s own goal in the second half enough to seal the points for the visitors, but ultimately not enough to move them above Rodgers’ side into third place.

Thus, there have been some disappointed Celtic fans in the Tavern following their team’s performance, while others are satisfied to have made it through to the Europa League, while almost all of them are likely to be intrigued by a promising recent report from The Scottish Sun.

And that’s because they report that the Bhoys are in pole position to land St Mirren midfielder Lewis Morgan in January, a 21-year-old attacking sensation who has made great strides at the Scottish Championship club this term.

The Scotland Under-21 international has played 97 times for Jack Ross’ men since his debut back in 2014, yet it has been this season which has seen him really prove his worth with an astounding ten goals and eight assists in 21 games in all competitions, helping the club to second place in the second tier.

And his incredible form in the final third has reportedly attracted the interest of several sides, notably Rangers, Nottingham Forest, and indeed Celtic, yet recent reports suggest that it is Rodgers’ men who are in pole position to land the starlet in January.

And with Morgan’s contract up at St Mirren at the end of the campaign, a move away in the New Year is looking more and more likely.

Landlord’s verdict: Lewis Morgan has been in sensational form for St Mirren this term, with ten goals and eight assists in just 21 appearances underlining his status as one of the country’s brightest talents.

And he’s someone that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly wants at Parkhead, as the Bhoys seek to continue their dominance of football north of the border having won all three domestic trophies last term, and maintaining their incredible unbeaten run this time round as well.

And with Morgan’s contract up in the summer, Celtic may sense an opportunity to get a good deal for the 21-year-old, who could see the Bhoys as the ideal destination to go and develop as a player, what with Rodgers renowned for giving young players an opportunity.

Yet with Rangers and Nottingham Forest also thought to be interested, Celtic won’t necessarily have everything all their own way in pursuit of the attacking sensation.
