Scott Arfield suffers injury blow on international duty

Rangers will make their return to Scottish Premiership action with an away trip to Hamilton Academical on Sunday, however, they could be without one of their key men.

According to a report by The Daily Record, Scott Arfield picked up a hamstring injury whilst on international duty with Canada.

The midfielder picked up the knock during a training session on Sunday and will miss out on his national team’s match against Dominica.

The extent of the injury is not quite known at the moment, however, Rangers will be sweating on how serious the setback could be.

Arfield has become an integral part of Steven Gerrard’s side since joining in the summer and has made a number of impressive contributions to the Light Blues recently.

The 29-year-old has netted three goals in his last five games for the Ibrox outfit, who are still looking for their first away win of the season in the Scottish Premiership.

The Verdict:

Rangers have already seen both Nikola Katic and Borna Barisic pull out of their national team set-ups through injury and will be disappointed to learn of Arfield’s injury.

The former Burnley man has been a key member of the first-team since joining up with the Light Blues and has made a number of impressive performances for Gerrard’s team.

It remains to be seen how bad the hamstring injury is and Rangers will be sweating that he is not ruled out for too long.
