Scottish international reportedly ‘would consider’ Rangers move in potentially encouraging news

Rangers supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side bring the curtain down on a turbulent 2017 with a spirited display in a 0-0 draw with Old Firm rivals Celtic on Saturday.

Graeme Murty’s men finished a staggering 39 points behind the Bhoys in the Scottish Premiership last season, with manager at the time Pedro Caixinha doing little to bridge the gap between themselves and their bitter rivals. And following a sluggish start to this term, the Portuguese was relieved of his duties back in October, with former Reading and Southampton defender Murty since taking over and somewhat steadying the ship at Ibrox with seven wins from his 12 matches in charge.

And a 0-0 draw at Celtic has satisfied several of our resident Rangers fans, many of whom are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Glasgow Evening Times, which suggests that Norwich’s Russell Martin is interested in a move to Ibrox this month.

The 31-year-old has been at Carrow Road permanently since 2010 after enjoying a decent loan spell there the year before, and he has since gone on to play 308 games for the Canaries, 125 of which coming in the Premier League.

However, the defender has struggled to force his way into Daniel Farke’s plans this term with just five Championship appearances so far, the latest of which coming in August, and as such speculation has risen recently about a possible move to Ibrox.

And recent reports suggest that the Scotland international is ‘would consider’ a move to the club in January, although the Gers have reportedly made no contact with the Championship side regarding a deal.

Thus, it very much remains to be seen whether Martin is a Rangers player beyond the January window.

Landlord’s verdict: Rangers didn’t enjoy the best of years in 2017, with Pedro Caixinha’s turbulent reign as boss seeing them fall even further behind bitter rivals Celtic.

However, current boss Graeme Murty has somewhat steadied things at Ibrox and will likely head into this month’s transfer window hoping to bring quality players to the club, one of which could well be Norwich City’s Russell Martin.

And that’s because the 31-year-old has reportedly suggested that he ‘would consider’ a move to the Scottish giants this month given his lack of playing time at Carrow Road, yet the Gers haven’t made contact with the Championship club regarding a deal.

Nonetheless, Martin’s apparent desire to join Rangers could boss Murty a possible boost if he were to want the defender at the club.
