Transfers are always a popular topic of debate among fans, and that’s particularly true of the Rangers faithful at present. The Gers have brought in a number of new faces so far this month, with Jermain Defoe undeniably the highlight.
Unsurprisingly, much of the attention regarding Rangers and transfers has been with regards to incoming players. Obviously, as a team that want to win the title and given that they don’t have the biggest squad in Scotland, that’s not a huge shock. They needed fresh faces, and that’s exactly what they’ve gotten.
However, some talk has now turned to the prospect of a major exit. Specifically, Alfredo Morelos is courting the interest of Nice – according to the Daily Record – and that’s led to discussions over his future.
Significantly, Steven Gerrard, as per the Times, has suggested that even the Columbian has a price-tag, and if a club were to meet it, the Gers’ brass could accept the move.
If Morelos were to leave, it would certainly be controversial, but would it be right? Well, BT Sport pundit Stephen Craigan thinks that it certainly wouldn’t be.
Speaking earlier this week, via BT Sport, he said: “That would be a hammer blow for the Rangers fans, if they sold Morelos. Even if it was for £15 or £16 million…fans would be devastated”.

Certainly, the sale of Morelos, if it were to happen, would be a major blow for the Ibrox faithful. He’s a real favourite of the club, and though other fans dislike him for his style of play, that’s exactly what has endeared him to Rangers supporters. He’s the sort of player that if he plays for your team, you love him, but otherwise, he’s the most hated player on the field. It’s a little bit like Diego Costa when he was at Chelsea.
Rangers have taken a number of steps forward with the arrivals of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, and fans have been delighted as a result. However, this would be a big step back from the club – regardless of the fees involved. Sometimes, the importance of a player sometimes goes beyond monetary value – especially with a title challenge on the way.
