Rangers 1-0 Hibernian: Jermain Defoe does what he does best to hand Rangers tight win over their rivals.
We all know what Defoe is capable of and he showed his renowned talents in the box to net his third goal in five games after being rewarded a star over returning Alfredo Morelos, who came close himself on a number of occasions after appearing as a sub following a four-match ban.
Hibernian, on the other hand, were uncharacteristically wasteful in front of goal and were dished out their first Scottish Premiership defeat under former Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom, 11 games into his reign, and waved goodbye to their hopes for European football in the process.
After a few attempts, forward Defoe finally managed to grab his goal and break the visitor’s staunch resistance from eight yards out, capitalising on a first time ball from Northern Ireland midfielder Ryan Jack.
Minutes before Rangers had the game tied up, ‘keeper McGregor was handed a red card and automatic suspension, meaning he will miss next week’s game against Celtic.
Everyone in a Rangers shirt performed valiantly on the day but our unsung hero has got to be Steven Davis.
It took Davis a while to find his feet but now he has he looks good value for his recent permanent deal. Energetic, calm and creative he showed all the right traits for a star player in the squad and his chemistry with teammates Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara truly is something to behold. If his form remains the same, along with his midfield partners, then we are expecting very, very good things from the Gers next season.
