Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited about their future under Steven Gerrard – our punters reckon the former England captain can return the club to their former glories.
The former Liverpool skipper was finally announced as Graeme Murty’s successor and will officially take charge of the club in July. Rangers’ transfer business is in full flow with Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy all signing permanent deals with the club. The Gers are nowhere near finished as they look to overhaul their squad and challenge Celtic for the title.
Recent reports are suggesting Rangers will attempt to bring Liverpool wonderkid, Ben Woodburn, to Scotland. Gerrard managed the Welsh international during his time with Liverpool’s U18 and made him the captain in the UEFA Youth League. Now, it seems he will try to lure him to Ibrox.
There were plenty of offers to take Woodburn on loan in January with Sunderland interested, but Jurgen Klopp refused to allow the starlet to leave. If Liverpool adds to their attack and signs Nabil Fekir, the German’s stance could change. The youngster is valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt.
Gerrard could offer Woodburn regular first-team football to aid his development with the 18-year-old making just one senior appearance for the Reds this season. Game time in the Scottish Premiership could be an excellent move for both parties – Liverpool will be pleased to see their prized asset featuring regularly, and Rangers would gain one of Europe’s hottest prospects.
With fantastic technical ability and an eye for goal, Woodburn would be a massive hit in the SPL.
