Steven Gerrard was extremely active in the summer transfer window to turn the Rangers side into the team it is now.
He has had relative success when it comes to the players fitting in and getting the best out of them, however, their Scottish Premiership form has been a little sketchy at times.
The Light Blues have been excelling in European competition, although their domestic performances have left concerns.
And, it appears Gerrard could look to address that in the winter as he looks to head back into the transfer market.
The defender initially came through the ranks at Ibrox but departed the club in 2016 and Gerrard is eyeing up a return for him as he is thought to be targeting another centre-back.
Halkett’s contract expires in the summer and there is thought to be a strong demand for his signature.
However, they will face strong competition for the 23-year-old, as he has attracted plenty of interest from clubs in England’s Championship with his performances.
Gerrard spent a lot of time on building his defence in the summer, having added the likes of Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson, Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley to the ranks.
However, it appears he still wants to add to that particular area of his team and improve it further with Halkett.
Rangers could have an advantage of landing the 23-year-old, as he was a former academy prospect, however, having never featured for the senior side, he could look to ply his trade across the border with one of England’s Championship sides in a new challenge.
