There is no doubt that Rangers will be frustrated with the way their season has gone when their failure to land a domestic trophy is concerned, however, Steven Gerrard appears to have made a positive impression at Ibrox.
The rookie manager made a number of changes to the squad he inherited in the summer, however, it seems that he is not quite happy and could look to enter the transfer market once again.
What’s the News?
Speaking ahead of their match with Kilmarnock in his press conference via the club’s official YouTube account, Gerrard admitted that the club had improved but revealed he could still do with a bit of magic.
“Without a doubt, we have improved,” he said. “The majority of players we have brought in have stood up, some haven’t and we will continue to improve the squad going forward.
“We are doing everything we can to make Rangers a winning team but it can’t happen overnight. There needed to be a squad overhaul when I arrived. There will be change and better players to add more quality but I don’t expect the same in terms of numbers. We need a bit of magic and a few key additions.”
As mentioned, although the season has largely been successful in terms of Gerrard’s first-ever campaign as a manager, there will have been a sense of disappointment that Rangers were unable to lift a domestic trophy this season – although they remain in pursuit of the Scottish Premiership.
It is always difficult for a team to obtain immediate success, especially considering the number of additions that he made over the course of the season, however, a number of the players appear to have taken to life in Glasgow rather well.
There were, of course, players that struggled to make an impact and were immediately offloaded as soon as the Light Blues could possibly do so and it would not be surprising to see another few depart in the summer.
If Rangers continue to improve as they have been and find the key additions that the club want to bring in, then silverware surely should not be too far away from the grasp of Gerrard and Rangers in the near future.
