Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern are buzzing with the club’s early business in the transfer window as Steven Gerrard looks to revamp his squad.
The ex-England captain will officially begin his duties in July and will have plenty of new faces to welcome to Ibrox. Scott Arfield arrived on a free transfer from Burnley, and Allan McGregor also joined on a free from Hull City. The Gers also made their loan signing of Jamie Murphy permanent.
As expected, Gerrard has been linked with a host of names from former club Liverpool with Ben Woodburn, Ovie Ejaria and Harry Wilson all rumoured with a move to the SPL. Instead, he should look to raid former rivals Everton for young forward – Nikola Vlasic.
The 20-year-old was signed by Ronald Koeman in August 2017 for £9m after impressing for Hajduk Split. The two sides met during the preliminary stages of the Europa League which prompted then director of football, Steve Walsh, to make a move for the youngster.
Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, his debut season in England has not gone to plan. After scoring on his debut, Vlasic failed to break into the first team, making just 12 appearances in the Premier League. He needs first-team football to get his career back on track.
The youngster remains one of Everton’s hottest prospects, but his route to the first-team will become even harder depending on who the Toffees sign in the summer. A loan move to Rangers makes perfect sense for both sides.
He is quick, tricky winger who would cause plenty of problems for Scottish Premiership defences. Under Gerrard’s tutelage, he could develop into the top player that Everton believed they signed.
