Steven Gerrard still wants to bring in a defender to improve his Rangers squad, however, it appears that two names that have been linked with a switch will not be heading to Ibrox this summer.
It is understood that there is no truth in the suggestions that the pair are on his shortlist this summer, however, he did admit that he is still hopeful of bringing in a centre-back to improve his side.
“Nothing. I’ve been asked about Nathan Dyer and there’s nothing in that either,” he revealed to the Daily Record when asked about Gauld and the truth about a possible move.
“Hopefully we can get a centre-back in. I’m not sure if it’s loan or permanent – could be either.”
Gerrard witnessed his side ship three goals away to Motherwell on Sunday and a centre-back would certainly help to improve things.
Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson have both be impressive during the early stages of their career at Ibrox, however, their defending was not the best at times at Fir Park.
He has already added significantly this summer to his midfield areas and it would be difficult to see the likes of Dyer and Gauld fitting into the team currently.
