Sunderland want Greg Docherty on season-long loan

Sunderland will be feeling confident of their chances of pushing for an automatic promotion spot in this season’s League One campaign.

The Black Cats will be looking to make their way back to the Championship after a disappointing year and Jack Ross has already been working hard to ensure his new team are in a position to challenge.

The former St. Mirren manager has already made a number of signings to help improve his side, as well as reducing the club’s wage bill by offloading some of his expensive stars, however, he could be about to make one of the signings of the summer for his team.

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, the Stadium of Light outfit are looking to capitalise on taking Greg Docherty from Rangers after he was made available for loan.

Steven Gerrard has told the midfielder that he does not feature in his immediate plans for the Light Blues and Sunderland are ready to offer him regular first-team football in League One.

The Verdict:

A move to Sunderland could be beneficial for Docherty’s development as he would likely get the first-team minutes he needs to progress.

The stature of the club is one that makes it appear as a decent fit for the player, whilst Ross will see the 21-year-old midfielder as an ideal target following their failure to land John McGinn from Hibernian.

Sunderland are looking to get a deal done quickly and with their aims of pushing for promotion, it would be a smart piece of business for them to get done.
