Celtic fans in the Transfer Tavern have halted their title-winning party as their focus switches to Motherwell in the upcoming Scottish Cup final.
Brendan Rodgers side cruised to their seventh successive Scottish Premiership title and lifted the trophy following a dominant 5-0 victory over rivals Rangers. The Northern Irishman has continuously improved the Hoops since taking charge, but performances in Europe are still lacking. Domestic success is excellent but our punters want to see Celtic challenge in the Champions League.
The summer transfer window is the perfect opportunity for Rodgers to strengthen his squad. With Scott Brown turning 33 in June, it’s time to start thinking about who will replace him in the Celtic midfield. With Swansea relegated to the Championship, they should look to sign Tom Carroll.
Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old has been criticised throughout the season but remains one of the best midfielders available to Carlos Carvalhal. A move to the Scottish Premiership could be just what the former Tottenham man needs to rediscover his best form. Confident on the ball with a great range of passing, Carroll is the ideal player for Rodgers’ possession philosophy.
Indeed, a move for Carroll would even work wonders for Brown himself. It’d allow him a rest during the long slogs of the league campaign, keeping him fresh for big European nights, as well as a partner with which to form a strong engine base with.
He is a great rotation option as Celtic look to compete on multiple fronts next season. Securing their 50th Scottish league title is a priority, but the Hoops need to leave their mark in Europe finally.
Celtic fans, thoughts?
