Rangers suffered a huge setback in their bid to qualify for the knockout phase of the Europa League last night as they lost 4-3 to Spartak Moscow in Russia, despite taking the lead on three separate occasions and going into the half-time break with a slender advantage.
Indeed, it was a fixture which had the making of a fantastic evening for the travelling Gers, but their frailties were exposed and ultimately they got their just reward for a poor defensive performance.
Steven Gerrard has taken some criticism for his decision to restore Nikola Katic to the starting eleven in place of Joe Worrall, but that was not the only decision which raised eyebrows amongst the supporters.
18-year-old Glenn Middleton was handed only his second start for the club in Russia on the left-wing, and he capped his performance with a goal shortly before the break as he crashed home Rangers’ third goal of the game at the back post.
It was a moment of pure elation for the exciting prospect, and both his goal and the overall quality of his performance caught the eye of the supporters on Twitter.
Here’s what the Rangers fans had to say about Middleton’s performance last night…
