Transfer setback for Celtic emerges – Report

Celtic supporters in the Transfer Tavern have used the first few weeks of the New Year looking back at their team’s incredible achievements in 2017, a year in which they brushed everyone in Scottish football aside to win all three domestic trophies.

Brendan Rodgers’ men stormed to the Scottish Premiership title last season for the loss of just eight points, eventually finishing a staggering 30 points clear of second place Aberdeen, and 39 clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers. And the Bhoys added further silverware to the Parkhead trophy cabinet by clinching the Scottish Cup title, beating Aberdeen in the final at Hampden Park back in May, before successfully defending their Scottish League Cup crown with a 2-0 success over Motherwell back in November.

Subsequently, there have been many happy Celtic fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Aksam, which suggests that their club have suffered a transfer setback by making a €3 million offer for Besiktas defender Dusko Tosic, a bid which will need to be upped if they are to get their man.

The 32-year-old made the move to the Super Lig giants back in 2015, and has since played 87 games for the club, netting five times to help them to back-to-back league titles, as well as the last 16 of this season’s Champions League.

And with the Bhoys somewhat depleted in the centre-back ranks at present, it appears that his fine efforts for Besiktas have attracted the interest of Rodgers’ men, who have reportedly launched a €3 million bid for the defender, although they will have to up it if they are to land the Serbia international.

And with other clubs also thought to be interested in Tosic, it’s far from certain that Rodgers will indeed get his man come January 31.

Landlord’s verdict: Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic have been slightly short of defensive options for much of the campaign so far, but with the summer transfer window likely to be tricky for the Bhoys given the World Cup in Russia, they appear willing to get important business done this month.

And recent reports suggest that they have launched a €3 million bid for Besiktas’ Dusko Tosic, an offer that has reportedly been turned down by the Super Lig champions as they hope to fetch €4 million for the 32-year-old.

At the age of 32, some Celtic fans may have reservations about the price, but with vast amounts of international and European experience under his belt, he could be the ideal addition to Rodgers’ side.

Only time will tell though whether they do indeed up their initial offer.
