Transfer swoop for £13.5m-rated Premier League legend would make Celtic unstoppable

We can’t stop the Celtic fans from signing in the Transfer Tavern following their superb 5-0 victory over rivals Rangers which saw them lift the Scottish Premiership trophy for the seventh time in a row.

With the Scottish Cup final just around the corner, Brendan Rodgers can’t begin his summer recruitment drive just yet as he looks to keep the Hoops at the top of the league while also challenge in Europe.

Celtic were knocked out at the group stage of the Champions League this year after being drawn alongside Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain. A 3-1 aggregate defeat to Zenit St Petersburg also saw them crash out of the Europa League at the round of 32, so it’s clear the Bhoys need an experienced old head to come in and help in that regard.

With that in mind, one man with plenty of Champions League experience is Wayne Rooney, and according to the Mirror, Everton are willing to listen to offers for England’s record goalscorer in the summer.

Valued at £13.5m by Transfermarkt, Rooney rejoined his former club in the summer with Romelu Lukaku heading the other way to Old Trafford. However, the 32-year-old has struggled following his return to Goodison Park and is set for an early departure. Though he’s struggled in recent years, he’d certainly fire goals in left, right and centre for the green and white cause.

Celtic should throw their name into the hat for his signature if he does become available. The Hoops would surely face competition from China and the USA but could hold the advantage in the race for his services by offering Champions League football.

Rooney’s vast experience and evident quality would greatly benefit Rodgers, especially on the European stage. If they can convince him to lower his wages, it could prove to be a marvellous signing.

Celtic fans, would you like to see Wayne Rooney at Celtic Park? Let us know!
