Steven Gerrard has certainly been making his mark on his Rangers squad since his arrival at the club last summer.
The manager was busy in reshaping the Ibrox outfit in the summer transfer window and appears to have turned the Light Blues into a side that is capable of challenging their Old Firm rivals Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.
Gerrard has continued in his efforts to bring a number of fresh faces to the club this winter as well, with Jermain Defoe arguably being one of his biggest coups to date.
With the veteran England international joining up with Alfredo Morelos in the attacking department, the Light Blues will certainly be a dangerous threat going forward, however, will the Colombia international benefit from his arrival or will the prolific 36-year-old take the limelight away from the in-demand star?
Defoe has arrived at Rangers on an 18-month loan agreement from AFC Bournemouth, although there are two possible recall options available to The Cherries.
As mentioned, the forward could arguably be one of Gerrard’s biggest coups so far and may even become one of the club’s most important players in the near future.
Having struggled for game time at the Premier League outfit, Defoe will want to show that he can still find the back of the net regularly – something he has managed to do regardless of who he has played for.
The 36-year-old could give the Ibrox outfit an edge over their Scottish Premiership rivals with his ability to score and could prove to be the difference in helping the Light Blues achieve number 55.

There is no doubt that Morelos has been a star for Rangers since his move to the Ibrox outfit in the summer of 2017.
Signed by Pedro Caixinha for £1.08million (per Transfermarkt), the 22-year-old has arguably become one of the only players to have come out of that disastrous era under the Portuguese manager with any creditability.
Morelos has been prolific for the Light Blues, having netted 38 times in his 76 appearances for the club – a goal every two matches.
The Colombian is thought to be a player in high demand, which will have concerned Rangers at times in subsequent transfer windows, however, they have managed to keep hold of him for now and the arrival of Defoe may work in his benefit as the pressure may be lifted from his shoulders slightly.

There is no question that Defoe’s arrival will benefit Rangers as a whole but does he benefit Morelos as well?
The 36-year-old is an experienced professional that the South American could look to learn from over the course of the next 18 months, which could only make the 22-year-old that much better.
With Rangers having had to rely on Morelos for goals over the past few seasons, it would appear the Light Blues have finally managed to find someone that could benefit the Colombian in ways that may excite fans.
