Very unwelcome setback emerges for Rangers – Report

Rangers will hope to pick up at least some silverware in Scotland this season, with a run in the Scottish Cup their biggest chance of returning the good times to Ibrox in the coming months.

The Gers face minnows Fraserburgh on Sunday for a place in the fifth round, and manager Graeme Murty will look to utilise a strong side in northern Scotland to ensure an upset is not on the cards. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are excited by the trip, with the visit to the humble Bellslea Park a real novelty for those used to the grandeur of their Ibrox arena in Glasgow. Our landlord caught up with fans about their chances of securing the Cup this term, when disappointing news broke for the side, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Ross McCrorie and Bruno Alves could be set for an extended spell on the sidelines with respective foot and calf injuries.

19-year-old McCrorie is expected to be out until the middle of next month, after aggravating an injury picked up before Christmas against Ross County during a warm-weather training camp in Florida. Murty also confirmed Alves will be out for a similar duration, after the experienced Portuguese defender suffered a calf tear.

Landlord’s Verdict: News of the pair’s injuries will come as a blow to those associated with the club, with the defensive duo key to any success the Gers may enjoy this season. Getting through the Fraserburgh tie without them will be no problem, but subsequent SPL absences could see Rangers fall away from second-place Aberdeen.

Fans will hope the pair will be ahead of schedule in their recoveries, and back to full-fitness ahead of what is set to be a gruelling run of fixtures over the course of the next few months.
