Rangers fans, cover your eyes. The Gers are infatuated with their young Colombian hitman and who can blame them. Since Steven Gerrard’s appointment at Ibrox, El Buffalo, as he’s affectionately known, has been a goalscoring machine. However, he may have to leave the comfort of Glasgow if he wants to progress his career.
The current January window has seen Alfredo Morelos linked away with a move to a side in one Europe’s top leagues. No one is saying that the Scottish Premier League isn’t the place to be, but to be recognised at the top level most players have to be playing their football in England, Spain, Germany, Italy or France, and it’s the latter of those five which could become Morelos’ new home.
Earlier in the window, Nice were linked with an £8 million move for Morelos by The Daily Record, and Gerrard claimed in a press conference soon after that the Colombian would not be sold, although he has previously admitted that every player has a price tag. If Morelos was to leave the Bluenoses, though, it would almost certainly take more than a derisory £8 million for him to be prised away.
The worry for the Gers and Stevie G is that Morelos may have his head turned. The 22-year-old will know that his goalscoring return of 20 goals in 35 games this season will have got some big clubs looking at him, and it’s now he deals with that. One thing, though, that could put a lot of clubs off of the recently capped Colombian international, is his poor disciplinary record.
This season alone has seen Morelos given his marching orders an incredible three times, a figure that some strikers fail to reach in their entire careers. Those sort of numbers for red cards is something that could put a lot of clubs off, and until he sorts out his anger problems on the pitch he won’t be a player that any top side will be interested in taking on.
If Morelos does want his big move then he will need to prove that he can straighten out his dismissal problems, and if he can do that between now and the summer then a move for him could be on the cards then, especially seeing as Steven Gerrard has both Kyle Lafferty and Jermain Defoe who will around to score goals for the Bluenoses in the 2019/20 season.Like what the TT have on offer?
