With Ryan Kent surely unlikely to return to Rangers next season, Steven Gerrard faces a massive task ahead of replacing one of his team’s star players, but thankfully, an answer is on their way.
The pre-contract signing of Jack Hastie has many fans excited about the future of Rangers, with the 20-year-old winger impressing for Motherwell this season and looking like a player who can have a significant impact on Gerrard’s side for the 2019/20 campaign and years to come.
Although Hastie, who is valued at £180,000 on Transfermarkt, is two years younger than Kent, there’s reason to believe the winger has what it takes to succeed what the Liverpool attacker achieved in his year-long spell at Rangers, and if Gerrard hands the youngster a starting berth for next season, fans could be in for a surprise.
Hastie has shown in the second-half of this season that he is a player that is more than capable of impressive in the Scottish Premiership, scoring six goals and assisting another in just 12 appearances for Motherwell since returning to his parent club from loan, and in a team with more quality additions like Rangers, the Scotland U-21 international could grow into a dangerous player for the Glaswegian side.
Able to play on both wings and able to make an impact whenever given the opportunity, Hastie has the current ability to be a regular in the Rangers XI and the potential to be one of Scotland’s next superstars if he flourishes under Gerrard with the Scottish giants, and this could lead him to greener pastures in England in the future.
We have seen plenty of players in Scotland impress and make the move down to the Premier League or Championship and become superstars, from Virgil van Dijk to Mikel Arteta, there are plenty of stories of those making the trip down south of the border and continuing to grow and become literal world-beaters, and Hastie could be the next in line.
Gerrard has an exciting prospect in Hastie, and if the Liverpool legend can get the best out of the young winger, Rangers will have a player who can one day go all the way to the top.
