It’s been one whirlwind of a season for Rangers, from challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership to having one of the worst disciplinary records in the country, fans have seen it all this season.
Steven Gerrard’s first venture into professional first-team management has been an entertaining one for both Rangers fans and neutrals keeping an eye on his progression as a manager, and after sealing second place in the league table and failing to win any domestic silverware, next season brings added pressure to the Liverpool legend to deliver success.
But, with the likes of Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier all been linked with moves away from Scotland this summer, Gerrard faces a big task of keeping hold of his star players whilst also building upon what he already has to be able to challenge for silverware next season, and this will be the difference-maker.
If Gerrard can keep retain his key players and recruit well, the future of Rangers will be a prosperous one, and the goal for next season will be to go for domestic trophies and keep up the pace with Celtic in the league.
Rangers were disappointing in cup competitions this season, losing to Aberdeen in both the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup as well as crashing out in the group stages of the Europa League, and next season should see Gerrard take greater priority in these non-SPL games if the club want to bridge the gap between them and their rivals.
Next season must be about trying to win silverware and go further in the league, as well as sorting out the attitude problems of players who have been more than happy to be shown red cards in games that are important for Rangers, something Gerrard has expressed concern about in press conferences.
If he can’t sort that out, Dave King’s gamble on bringing him to Ibrox might look a bit stupid, after all.
Rangers have a big future ahead of them with Gerrard at the helm, and success next season can be achieved if they can retain their superstars for another year and go into every cup and league game with the same desire and determination to win everything in their path.
Rangers fans, can the club achieve success next season? Let us know!
