While Mikael Lustig’s departure from Celtic after a celebrated seven-and-a-half year stint will have no doubt been emotional (Chris Sutton even described him as a great servant for the club on Twitter) things must move on.

Indeed, while the 32-year-old called Glasgow 'home' in an emotional Instagram post (via the Daily Record) confirming his departure little over a week ago now, attention must now turn to bringing in a long-term heir.

After seven-and-a-half seasons with Lustig largely donning the starting right-back berth, perhaps someone a touch more dynamic is required to refresh the squad. With the Bhoys averaging 63% of the possession (as per FootyStats) over the course of last season yet managing to score less than Rangers in the league, making a move for a mobile, attacking option to bomb down the flank might help the team convert their dominance of the ball into more goals.

Well, according to The Sun, the Hoops are apparently locked in a fight for Luton Town’s Jack Stacey with Stoke City, who, in our minds, would be the perfect right-back required to fix their issues.

When you look at how he scored 4 goals and assisted 8 in League One last season, much more than the likes of Lustig and Kieran Tierney had managed in the SPFL, it’s clear he’d add something different down their right flank. Also included in the EFL League One Team of the Season last time out, it’s rather obvious as to how influential the 23-year-old was for guiding the Hatters to the title.

Described by former manager Nathan Jones (speaking to the Stoke Sentinel in April) as 'categorically' the best in the league, this does appear to be an exciting talent.

Considering he's only 23 and coming off such a successful season, Jack Stacey does appear to have the traits to replace Lustig and can perhaps help Celtic attack from more outlets as they aim to extend their domestic dominance into a ninth consecutive season.

Celtic fans, do you think Stacey can potentially fill Lustig's boots next season? Join the discussion by commenting below...
