Celtic: Jonny Hayes confirms Hoops exit with emotional Instagram post - SPFL News

Jonny Hayes confirmed in a post on his Instagram channel @jonnyhayes11 that he is leaving Celtic after three seasons at the club.

The Republic of Ireland international took to social media to announce his departure from Parkhead as he paid tribute to the “terrific staff” at the club and “unbelievable guys” alongside him in the dressing room.

The 32-year-old reflected on the highs and lows of his time with the Hoops and signed off by urging supporters to “stay safe” amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Hayes, who joined from Aberdeen in 2017, went on to play 68 times for Celtic, scoring twice and providing seven assists, with one of those goals coming in the 2-0 derby triumph over Glasgow Rangers in the early weeks of this season.

His first campaign at Parkhead was ended prematurely after breaking his leg against Dundee midway through the season but he recovered sufficiently to make 22 appearances in 2018/19.

Hayes made a further 26 appearances this season but most of those were as a substitute as he struggled to hold down a place in Neil Lennon’s first XI. He had been the recipient of strong criticism from some Hoops fans over performances against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen over the winter but, now that he can sign off from the club with three Premiership medals and seven trophies in total, plenty of the Parkhead faithful showed their appreciation in replying to his Instagram post.

The Irishman’s three years at Celtic included some tough moments but also encompassed numerous trophy-winning days and he can always say that he played his part in the historic ‘treble treble‘ season. He leaves as an admirable servant to the Hoops’ cause during his three years with the club.
