Celtic made it seven domestic trophies in a row under manager Brendan Rodgers after they beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the Scottish League Cup final in a match where central defender Dedryck Boyata put in a solid display.

The 28-year-old, however, is still expected to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires, though Rodgers is hopeful of him putting pen to paper on a new deal and remaining at Celtic Park.

The Breakdown

"He [Boyata] is in the last year, but I am quite relaxed on it," Rodgers was recently quoted saying by the Evening Times.

"He probably has to look at every option possible. He has created a market for himself now because of how he has performed which is great for him. Careers are short. here has been no lack of commitment from him since the summer as you have seen."

All things considered, Rodgers is probably being a bit optimistic in regards to Boyata's future. But it is important and good to see that the Celtic boss has not given up hope of keeping the Belgian in Glasgow.

He has become such a key figure for the team since arriving from Manchester City back in 2015 and, under Rodgers, he has improved massively as a defender.

Alongside Filip Benkovic, who has also impressed this season, £1.8m-rated (Transfermarkt) Boyata has been part of a centre-half partnership responsible for Celtic's change of fortunes at the back after a poor start to the campaign defensively.

Regardless of how slim the chances are, Rodgers must do all he can to persuade Boyata to stay at Celtic Park.
