Steven Gerrard should continue to bolster his squad after Jermain Defoe has signed.

To be able to acquire Defoe on an 18-month loan deal displays the pulling power than Gerrard and the Ibrox faithful have towards players.

That same pulling power can be used to attract another player to Rangers to help bolster their title chances for the coming years. That man being Kilmarnock's Jordan Jones.

Jones has been one of Killie's standout players this season and one of the key reasons as to why they find themselves in third, one point of top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

Now, the 24-year-old's contract expires at the end of the 2018/19 season and, as confirmed over the course of the weekend, he's signed a pre-contract agreement.

It is obviously a big loss to Killie as Jones' contribution on the wing with two goals and four assists have helped launch them into the position they are in, and they will be wanting to build on this season, rather than regress.

On the other hand, it is a good move for The Gers as they are able to gain more depth out wide for next season's title challenge. Ryan Kent's loan is surely unlikely to be renewed and considering his notable contribution this season, Jones will be looking to emulate a similar attacking output in his first season in Glasgow.

If Gerrard can get another deal boxed off, it stands Rangers in very good stead for the coming years.
