What does the future hold for James Forrest at Celtic?

There are very few one-club men in football these days and a lot of that may be down to the obscene money in the game and agents touting their players around to try and make huge profits. One man who has stayed true to his club is James Forrest, but as the 27-year-old looks to end the best season of his career with a bang, a move could be on the cards.

The Scottish winger is having one of those seasons that you can only dream about. Having come through the Hoops’ academy system as a young wide-eyed winger, Forrest would never have imagined he’d be contributing 37 goals and assists in a season, yet here we are. Back in the January window, there were talks Liverpool wanted the winger, with the Scottish Sun claiming they were eyeing up an £8 million bid.

Forrest has got everything to his game that would make him a hit at Anfield. The Merseyside club have got their own dynamic widemen, but with a lack of real options to fill in for Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, Forrest would be a great addition for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Scottish international has added end product to his game, and if the rumoured January price is right, it would hardly be a risky move.

Klopp added Shaqiri to his squad at Anfield last summer, and that move was one that cost the Reds £13 million. Even if Forrest doesn’t come with the same reputation as Shaqiri, he has similar attributes going forward and is much more reliable when it comes to working back helping out those behind him, something that Klopp has a great emphasis on with his attacking options.

Whether or not Liverpool come back in is yet to be seen, but whatever happens, Forrest should look for an exit. The 27-year-old has passed his sell-by date at Parkhead and will surely be looking to take the next step. It could be hard for him to leave the comforts of the Bhoys, but if he wants to kick on and be remembered across Europe and not just in Glasgow, he will need to make a summer escape from the club that made him.
