Everton: Paul Robinson shares fascinating Sean Dyche insight

Everton manager Sean Dyche

Former Burnley goalkeeper Paul Robinson has shared some fascinating training methods that Sean Dyche has carried over to Everton.

The Lowdown: Good start

Dyche got off to the perfect start as the new manager at Goodison Park at the weekend, winning 1-0 against the current Premier League leaders Arsenal thanks to a header from James Tarkowski.

The victory move them one place up in the table, and within touching distance of leaving the relegation zone, only now in the bottom three on goal difference.

Dyche’s next fixture is a Merseyside derby away at Liverpool on Monday night, where he will be hoping that his side can put in another impressive performance.

The Latest: Fascinating training methods

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson shared some fascinating insight into Dyche’s training methods from his time playing under him at Burnley, including not being allowed to wear hoods, gloves or leggings on the training pitch, while wearing shin pads is mandatory:

“Sean Dyche is all about honesty.

“He wants players to practice how they play. The shin pads in training is nothing new. That is how he has always managed. That is how we trained at Burnley. We did it everyday.

“He also did not have hoods, leggings or gloves on the training pitch. That is just how he operates.

“Discipline is central. He is a big believer in self-discipline. There will be a lot of rules and regulations but it will be policed by the players.

“His man management skills are excellent. Clearly he has already had an impact on the group though. They were very good against Arsenal and I thought the were fully deserving of the three points. I think he will do well there.”

The Verdict: Gets results

Everton were probably not expected to take any points from Arsenal given their respective league positions, let alone all three, which shows that Dyche is capable of immediately getting a tune out of his players.

His training methods are a huge part of this, and it worked for him at Burnley, so there is no reason not to implement them at the Toffees.

He managed to keep the Clarets up for five straight seasons in the Premier League, including an impressive seventh-placed finish in the 2017/2018 campaign, and so there is no reason for supporters not to believe that he can keep the Blues up this term.
